Most families we meet in Mumbai already own gold. This isn't an article about selling it. It's about what your next asset could do differently.

Gold has earned its place in Indian households for good reasons: it's liquid, it's globally priced, and it doesn't ask anything of you once you own it. Those are real strengths, and nothing here argues you should give them up.

But gold has one structural limitation that no amount of price appreciation changes — it does not pay you anything while you hold it. A bar of gold worth ₹75 Lakhs today is worth whatever the market says it's worth tomorrow, and not a rupee more, regardless of how long you keep it in a locker.

What ₹75 Lakhs can also do

That's roughly the same figure many families hold in gold — and it's also the all-inclusive price of a Glass Resort Suite at our Shahapur community, about 70 minutes from Mumbai. The suite is fully managed: Pool City handles housekeeping, guest turnover and upkeep, and pays the owner an assured monthly rental that starts at ₹21,000 and steps up by ₹1,000 every year, up to ₹35,000 a month, across a 15-year term.

You can also spread the cost instead of paying it all at once — a ₹1 Lakh token to reserve the suite, then a fixed ₹50,000 monthly instalment over 120 months, with no bank loan and no interest.

"Property takes longer to sell than gold — that's an honest trade-off. What it offers instead is monthly income while you hold it, which gold does not."

The honest trade-offs, both ways

Gold wins on liquidity — you can sell it in an afternoon, in almost any city, at a price everyone already agrees on. A resort suite is a physical asset; finding a buyer and completing a resale takes real time, and property markets move less predictably than the gold price.

A resort suite wins on income — it's the only one of the two that pays you something every month simply for owning it, on top of whatever it's worth if you eventually sell.

Gold has no address and no upkeep. A resort suite is a real, physical place near Mumbai you can actually visit, use for a weekend, and hand to your family — not just a number in a locker.

So which is right for you?

For most of the families we speak with, the honest answer is both — not one instead of the other. Gold as the liquid store of value it's always been. A managed second home as the part of the portfolio that pays you back monthly and gives you somewhere to actually go. Neither replaces the other; they do different jobs.
